Valencian Government Presses River Authorities as Júcar Basin Says All 55 Agents Were Deployed

The exchange spotlights a push for public reporting to clarify roles before future storms.

Overview

  • The Generalitat formally requested detailed counts, locations and schedules of environmental-agent deployments from the Júcar, Segura and Ebro basin confederations after the latest rains.
  • The Júcar River Basin Authority said every available environmental agent—55 across a network of more than 46,000 kilometers of channels—was on duty conducting inspections and surveillance.
  • The CHJ emphasized that its mandate is administrative vigilance of the public hydraulic domain, not emergency response, and that real-time SAIH data and agent patrols do not replace intervention services.
  • Regional emergencies chief Juan Carlos Valderrama argued that a lack of timely answers suggested no agents were mobilized, a claim the CHJ rejected with its deployment statement.
  • Separately, Valderrama demanded a public correction from Cullera’s mayor, saying he placed three calls during the episode and that the mayor later acknowledged receiving them.
