Valencian Government Awards Nou d’Octubre Honors to Dana Responders, Not Victims

The move highlights the autonomous-state model’s interregional solidarity during the 2024 flood.

Overview

  • The Consell approved on October 7 a Nou d’Octubre lineup that recognizes broad solidarity shown after the October 29, 2024 Dana flood.
  • The Alta Distinción goes collectively to Spain’s autonomous communities and will be received at the Palau on Thursday by Aragón’s president, Jorge Azcón.
  • The Distinción de la Generalitat will honor sectors and organizations including emergency and health services, NGOs and volunteer networks, universities and schools, business and industry groups, agrarian cooperatives, justice services, religious communities, and international partners.
  • Victims are not included in these distinctions and will be commemorated at a State funeral on October 29, according to vice president and spokesperson Susana Camarero.
  • Three major victims’ associations have declined invitations to the Nou d’Octubre ceremonies, though the Generalitat says other affected groups will attend.
