Valencian Government Acknowledges €61M Annual Shortfall From Wealth Tax Exemption

Scheduled for 2026, the change will remove about 13,300 taxpayers from the Patrimonio rolls, provoking warnings of cuts to social services.

Overview

  • Regional treasury data show Patrimonio revenue will drop 31%, falling from €196.6 million to €135.9 million annually under the new exemption.
  • Exempting those with net wealth between €500,000 and €1 million will remove roughly 13,307 taxpayers—about 0.5% of residents—from the tax rolls.
  • Remaining wealth taxpayers will see their average annual payment decline by €3,496, from €12,932.90 to €9,436.75.
  • The PSPV labels the measure a fiscal gift to the wealthy and cautions that a €61 million yearly loss could total €242 million over the legislature and trigger social spending cuts.
  • The exemption boost was introduced by a PP-Vox budget amendment and will apply in the 2026 tax year.
