Valencia Reopens Turia Track After Full Resurfacing

The public–private 'Comparte Maratón València' project funded a 13.5 mm layered rubber surface, a new photo-finish system, and field-event upgrades to restore competition-grade conditions.

Overview

  • The Estadio del Turia athletics track in tramo III of the Jardín del Turia has reopened following an integrated pavement renewal delivered by the Ayuntamiento de Valencia and Maratón València.
  • Maratón València financed the work with an investment of more than €700,000 and supplied a new video/photo-finish system to improve timing for races and events.
  • Contractors replaced the running ring, start and braking zones, long and triple jump runways, the pole-vault strip, and javelin areas and laid a 13.5 mm structure with an impact-absorbing base and rubber top.
  • Access will be phased so schools, federated athletes and the general public have dedicated time slots, with a planned technification session before the facility returns to regular opening hours.
  • The intervention fixes wear that had built up since the last full renewal in 2018 and aims to improve grip, shock absorption and training and competition conditions for local clubs, schools and elite athletes.
