Valencia Publishes Sorolla Museum Pact With Hispanic Society

The framework defines a multi‑year loan with specified funding terms under a new foundation.

Overview

  • The DOGV release formalizes a plan to display at least 221 Sorolla works in the Palacio de las Comunicaciones, with an annex listing 238 pieces provisionally.
  • The loan runs for four years with an option to renew for four more, and the selection will be validated by Blanca Pons-Sorolla alongside a specialist designated by the Generalitat.
  • The Generalitat will pay a €1.15 million fee in the first year indexed to inflation, covering the loan and licensing of the Hispanic Society and Café Huntington names.
  • A new foundation chaired by the Generalitat will manage the venue, while an operator proposed by the Hispanic Society will oversee daily operations, ticketing, and the shop and café, whose net revenues will be split between the operator and the Society.
  • The site will be upgraded to museum conservation standards for temperature, humidity, and security, with local reporting estimating total project costs at around €15 million, and the monumental Visiones de España panels are excluded though preparatory works are included.
