Valencia Marathon Weekend Brings Citywide Closures, Elite Field and New 2026 Ballot Plan

City authorities launch traffic restrictions with transit detours to enable assembly of the start area.

  • About 36,000 runners from 150 countries are set to start the Maratón Valencia at 8:15 on Sunday, December 7.
  • Road closures began Friday at 22:00 around the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències with 1,707 barriers installed, with most traffic restored by Sunday night after race operations.
  • EMT has rerouted 32 bus lines through race weekend and will suspend C1, 19, 30, 31, 32, 40, 67, 70, 71, 73, C2, 81, 92, 93, 94, 95 and 98 on Sunday; tram lines 4, 6, 8 and 10 face timed service cuts during the morning.
  • Officials report a deployment including 510 Local Police officers and thousands of volunteers to manage safety, mobility and the start-box flow for the mass field.
  • Organizers confirmed a 2026 registration overhaul with a four-day fidelity window for 2025 registrants from December 11–15 followed by a public ballot opening December 16, alongside record bonuses that include €1,000,000 for a marathon world record.
