Valencia Halts 9 d’Octubre Civic Procession as Orange Rain Alert Forces Major Changes

An upgraded forecast led emergency officials to postpone the mascletà, with fireworks and a drone show moved to earlier slots as a safety measure.

Overview

  • Valencia’s emergency committee (Cecopal) suspended the 9 d’Octubre Civic Procession after AEMET raised the rain alert to orange, with a reassessment possible if the alert is lowered.
  • The mascletà was postponed because the pyrotechnic setup cannot be safely assembled while the orange alert is in effect from 00:00 to 17:00 on Thursday.
  • Wednesday night’s fireworks from the Montolivete bridge and a 200‑drone show were brought forward to 22:00 to avoid the alert window, with Pirotecnia del Mediterráneo’s display originally planned at 819 kg of powder.
  • The Federación Valenciana de Moros y Cristianos rescheduled Valencia’s XXI Entrada to Sunday, 26 October, citing weather-related safety and viability concerns.
  • Police deployments, fencing and traffic and parking restrictions remain in place for contingency, as several Safor municipalities also suspend or delay outdoor 9 d’Octubre events.
