Valencia City Council and Iberdrola to Illuminate Cathedral and Miguelete Tower

Mayor María José Catalá has enlisted the Iberdrola Foundation together with the Archdiocese of Valencia to confront technical challenges in heritage preservation.

Overview

  • María José Catalá proposed partnering with Iberdrola Foundation president Jaime Alfonsín to light up the city’s Cathedral and its beloved Miguelete tower.
  • The Archdiocese of Valencia, led by Archbishop Enrique Benavent, will join the council and foundation team to address conservation requirements and technical specifications.
  • This effort builds on the September 2024 Palau de la Música lighting upgrade, which used 155 LED projectors to cut power consumption by about 40%.
  • Iberdrola received Valencia’s Medal of Gratitude in February 2024 for its support after the Campanar building fire.
  • The council and foundation have also worked together on cultural initiatives such as the recent ‘El Prado en las Calles’ exhibition at Jardines de Viveros.
