Valencia and Hispanic Society Sign Multi-Year Loan to Exhibit Sorolla Works

Valencia will transform its historic Palacio de las Comunicaciones into an international showcase for Sorolla’s art under a four-year renewable agreement with the Hispanic Society.

Overview

  • The agreement was formally signed on July 24 by President Carlos Mazón and HSA director Guillaume Kientz, securing a four-year loan of at least 220 Sorolla works with an option to extend for another four years.
  • The Generalitat Valenciana will pay €1.15 million annually to the Hispanic Society Museum & Library for the artworks’ loan.
  • The historic Palacio de las Comunicaciones will be refurbished into a museum space set to open in 2026, displaying oils, gouaches, drawings, photographs, sculptures and personal correspondence.
  • Blanca Pons-Sorolla, the painter’s granddaughter, led the curatorial selection in New York and will validate the final exhibition lineup.
  • Officials are finalizing public announcements and the exhibition program schedule ahead of the mid-2026 launch.
