Elavenil topped qualification with a national record before settling for bronze in a fiercely contested women’s 10m air rifle final

Overview

  • Elavenil Valarivan set a new Indian qualification record of 635.9 and led much of the women’s 10m air rifle final before finishing third with 232.1.
  • China’s 18-year-old Wang Zifei broke the qualification world record with 637.9 and went on to claim gold with a final score of 252.7.
  • Varun Tomar qualified second in the men’s 10m air pistol with 585 and ended the final in sixth place after scoring 160.3.
  • World Cup debutants Ananya Naidu, Aditya Malra and Nishant Rawat made their first appearances with Naidu placing 15th in women’s air rifle, Rawat fifth in his pistol relay and Malra 18th in qualification.
  • India’s 22-member squad, featuring Olympians Manu Bhaker and Swapnil Kusale, will contest additional rifle and pistol events through June 15 in Munich.
