Vaishno Devi Yatra Postponed Again as Rains Persist in Jammu and Kashmir

The shrine board deferred the Sept. 14 restart after the weather office flagged continuing heavy rain in the region.

Overview

  • The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said the restart set for Sept. 14 is postponed until further orders because of incessant rain on the track and at Bhawan.
  • The IMD’s regional centre has a yellow alert in place through Sept. 19 forecasting heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning across Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Authorities reported landslides that blocked parts of the yatra route and disrupted the JammuSrinagar National Highway, restricting safe access for pilgrims.
  • Officials plan to reintroduce wireless sets along the trek to strengthen communications as preparations continue for a future reopening ahead of the Shardiya Navratras.
  • The pilgrimage has been suspended since an Aug. 26 landslide near Adhkuwari killed 34 and injured 20, and a committee has been constituted to investigate the tragedy.
