V&A to Stage First UK Retrospective of Schiaparelli in Spring 2026

The museum has secured unprecedented fine art loans to chart Schiaparelli’s surrealist collaborations complemented by its modern revival under Daniel Roseberry.

Overview

  • Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art will run from March 21 to November 1, 2026, in the V&A’s Sainsbury Gallery.
  • The exhibition will feature more than 200 objects encompassing Elsa Schiaparelli’s garments, accessories, jewellery and fine art.
  • Iconic pieces such as the Skeleton dress, Tears dress and an upside-down shoe hat created with Salvador Dalí will be on display.
  • Paintings and photographs by Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and Man Ray will accompany the couture pieces to highlight the brand’s surrealist legacy.
  • Tickets go on sale in autumn 2025 and V&A director Tristram Hunt says the show represents the highest level of fine art loans ever secured for a fashion exhibition.
