Vía Expresa Grau Begins Passenger Trial Runs on Oct. 1

Technicians will use six days of controlled runs to calibrate radio signalling, verify automated platform doors, measure traffic flow, prepare for a planned December commercial launch.

Overview

  • The Autoridad de Transporte Urbano and Emape will operate a passenger marchablanca from Thursday Oct. 1 through Tuesday Oct. 6 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to test the new corridor.
  • Agencies give different service plans for the first stage: the ATU says units will run about every 15 minutes while Emape reports two buses per day with projected 20‑minute departures during initial tests.
  • The trial covers a 2.8‑kilometre segregated corridor with nine signalized intersections and bidirectional service linking Estación Central with Parinacochas and stops at Abancay and Andahuaylas.
  • Tests will focus on technical systems — radio signalling, automated platform doors and real‑time traffic monitoring — and the fare will remain at S/3.20 for trunk trips and S/3.50 for integrated trips.
  • Officials plan to expand controlled passenger testing through October and November before opening the section for regular commercial operation in December 2026, improving direct transfers between the Metropolitano, Line 1 and feeder routes from Lima Norte and Lima Sur.
