- The Department of Veterans Affairs said $84 million will go to 176 organizations, split evenly between legal services and case management to improve housing stability for veterans.
- The grants are part of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program’s $818 million nationwide allocation in fiscal year 2026.
- State-level awards are also moving forward, including more than $19 million to five Tennessee organizations and nearly $12 million to three Louisiana groups, with $7.5 million for Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana, $3.4 million for Hope Center, Inc., and $1.8 million for Start Corporation.
- Grant and Per Diem funding will support about 100 case manager positions focused on housing search and placement, home visits to monitor stability, and access to educational activities that promote independence.
- Legal Services for Homeless Veterans grants will address eviction prevention, child support and custody proceedings, benefits claims, and selected criminal matters, while Tennessee reported 570 veterans experiencing homelessness in January 2024, a 24.9% annual decrease.
