• Uzbekistan clinched its first World Cup spot with a goalless draw against the UAE on June 7 and Jordan sealed its debut by defeating Oman 3-0.
• South Korea extended its streak to 11 consecutive tournaments with a 2-0 win over Iraq, while China’s 1-0 loss to Indonesia eliminated it from contention.
• With the co-hosts USA, Canada and Mexico joined by Argentina, Japan, Iran, New Zealand, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Jordan, ten of the 48 places are now filled.
• Qatar and the United Arab Emirates will advance to Asia’s playoff round for two more World Cup spots after finishing as top runners-up in their groups.
