UVA Delays Release of Shooting Report Due to Ongoing Criminal Trial

The decision was made in consultation with Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney to ensure a fair trial for the accused.

The University of Virginia has delayed the release of an external report on a fatal shooting last year until criminal proceedings in the case are complete.
The decision was made after conferring with counselors and Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Hingeley.
The report was created by an outside counsel appointed by the attorney general’s office to review the university's response to the shooting, its evaluation of a potential threat posed by the accused, and its safety policies overall.
The accused, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., has been charged with murder. No trial date has been set.
The total cost of the review, including some pending costs, is $1,435,260.88, which is paid by the university.
