UTTIPEC Clears Maa Anandmayee Elevated Road and Completes 31 Metro Station Access Plans

The decisions open the way for design and funding of a 5.5 km elevated corridor, a 550 m underpass and Mukarba Chowk ROB upgrades to reduce congestion.

Overview

  • UTTIPEC, which met Wednesday, approved six Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Multi Modal Integration plans and two Public Works Department road projects at its 70th governing body meeting.
  • The six MMI plans cover GTB Nagar, Sarita Vihar, Akshardham, Rohini West/Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Malviya Nagar and Shastri Park stations and complete approval of all 31 Phase I/II station access plans aimed at improving walkability and last‑mile connections within about 300 metres of each station.
  • The Maa Anandmayee Marg scheme is a proposed six‑lane, 5.5 km elevated corridor from Outer Ring Road to Mehrauli‑Badarpur Road that will bypass about 12 intersections and includes a roughly 550‑metre underpass and roundabout at the Crowne Plaza junction.
  • A PWD official estimated the combined flyover and underpass cost at ₹250–300 crore and said traffic counts on the stretch run about 10,000–12,000 vehicles per hour, while Mukarba Chowk works will widen an existing ROB from six to ten lanes and add a new four‑lane ROB expected to divert about 20% of junction traffic.
  • The approvals let the responsible agencies move the schemes into detailed design, funding and implementation steps and will be followed by further clearances and budget allocations that will determine construction timelines and local impacts such as more surface space for pedestrians and dedicated non‑motorised transport lanes.
