• Kotwali police in Dehradun registered the FIRs on August 8 after taking suo motu cognisance of Facebook posts about the Dharali floods.
• One accused shared before-and-after photographs of Dharali village with the caption “Disaster in Dharali village… nature’s bulldozer,” and three others posted provocative comments about religious structures.
• The four are charged under section 299 for deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings and section 353(2) for circulating false information to promote enmity.
• Kotwali Station House Officer Pradeep Pant said officers are working to locate and arrest the named individuals.
• Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh said the state police’s social media team has flagged misleading posts and issued stern warnings against further misinformation.
