Uttar Pradesh Raises Income Cap to ₹3 Lakh and Aid to ₹1 Lakh for Mass Marriage Scheme

Preparations are underway for the next round of weddings with priority given to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, economically weaker families.

  • The state raised the scheme’s annual income eligibility from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh to boost applications across rural and urban areas.
  • Financial assistance per couple has been increased to ₹1 lakh for fiscal year 2025-26, including ₹60,000 deposited into the bride’s bank account, ₹25,000 in household gifts and ₹15,000 for wedding expenses.
  • A May 27 mass marriage in Gorakhpur formalized weddings for 1,200 couples under the scheme with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presiding over the ceremony.
  • Since its 2017 launch, the program has married over 4.76 lakh girls from low-income families, with more than 2.2 lakh beneficiaries from Dalit households.
  • Officials have begun preparations for the next round of events and are coordinating with local bodies, gram panchayats and anganwadi centers to verify applicants.
