  • The state government on June 18 submitted a set of reform proposals to the 16th Finance Commission under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership.
  • Recommendations call for revising State Disaster Response Fund and State Disaster Mitigation Fund guidelines to expedite relief and allow inter-head budget transfers.
  • Uttar Pradesh seeks national recognition of calamities such as heatwaves, lightning strikes, unseasonal rains, storms, snakebites and drownings after reporting 4,534 deaths from state-notified disasters in 2024–25.
  • Proposals include raising the spending cap on state-notified disasters from 10% to 25% and earmarking 1% of disaster funds for administrative expenses.
