- On July 11, Hasanganj police in Lucknow registered an FIR against Mohammed Nazil and his father and brothers following allegations of long-term sexual assault, blackmail and forced conversion.

- Shahjahanpur police arrested Naveed late on July 12 and charged him alongside relatives under sections for rape, forced abortion and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
