Overview
- All UPSRTC and urban buses will offer free travel to women from August 8 through midnight on August 10.
- Authorities will deploy extra buses and set up special arrangements in high-traffic hubs including Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur.
- Since its 2017 launch, the scheme has expanded as 19.78 lakh women travelled free in 2024 at a cost of Rs 19.87 crore and 22 lakh did so in 2023 for Rs 27.66 crore.
- Preparations for Independence Day include a goal to hoist 4.6 crore flags by August 8 and to conduct Tiranga Yatras and school events from August 9 to 12, with Partition Horrors Remembrance Day events on August 14.
- Transport authorities will incentivize drivers and conductors to ensure buses run continuously during the three-day free travel period.
