Overview
- Raj Vir was arrested in December 2008 after a Mainpuri SHO’s typo replaced his brother Ram Vir’s name with his own in an FIR under IPC 307, the SC/ST Act and the Gangster Act.
- He spent 22 days in jail and attended nearly 300 court hearings as the case was transferred from Agra to Mainpuri and dragged on without correction.
- The years of litigation exhausted his savings, wrecked his farming livelihood and forced his son to leave school for farm labour.
- On July 24, 2025, Special Judge Swapna Deep Singhal formally acquitted him of all charges and declared him innocent.
- The court condemned the sustained police negligence and instructed the Superintendent of Police to initiate disciplinary action against the officers involved.
