Overview

  • The cabinet approved the Uttar Pradesh Homestay and Bed & Breakfast Policy-2025 on June 3 and it is now in effect to ease lodging shortages at destinations including Varanasi, Ayodhya and Prayagraj.
  • Residents within close proximity to religious or tourist sites can register homestays of one to six rooms with up to 12 beds, hosting guests for up to seven days with renewal options.
  • A tiered registration fee structure charges Rs 500 to Rs 750 for rural homestays and Rs 2,000 for urban and silver-category units.
  • Eligible homestays must obtain no-objection certificates from local bodies and register through committees headed by district magistrates with police chiefs participating.
  • The policy also provides financial incentives and grants to approved units to encourage local participation and stimulate economic growth through tourism.
