Uttar Pradesh Kharif Acreage Jumps by 26% to 8.26 Million Hectares

  • Uttar Pradesh’s total Kharif area surged from 6.574 million hectares in 2024 to 8.262 million hectares this season, marking a 26% year-on-year increase.
  • Oilseed cultivation climbed to 547,140 hectares, driven by sesame’s rise from 180,260 to 303,000 hectares.
  • Pulse sowing expanded with pigeon pea acreage up to 273,000 hectares and moong to 32,000 hectares.
  • Staple grains also saw growth as paddy reached 5,546,000 hectares and maize 701,000 hectares.
  • Cotton planting more than doubled to 18,000 hectares as targeted subsidies and national MSP hikes encouraged diversification.
