Overview
- Finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced a 1% recovery rebate for milling non-hybrid (coarse) paddy.
- The state has allocated roughly Rs 166–167 crore this year to compensate mills for the rebate.
- Officials estimate direct benefits for about 13–15 lakh farmers and more than 2,000 rice mills.
- The measure complements an existing 3% rebate on hybrid paddy and is pitched to boost mill participation in government procurement with projections of up to two lakh jobs.
- Procurement began on October 1 in western UP and November 1 in eastern districts, with 4,100 centres operating and 1.41 lakh metric tonnes purchased so far.
