Uttar Pradesh Districts Shut Schools and Deploy Extra Security for Kanwar Yatra

Overview

  • Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts have declared a full holiday for all educational institutions from July 16 to 23, while Ghaziabad’s closure runs from July 17 to 23.
  • Varanasi, Bareilly and Badaun have adopted staggered holiday schedules on Shravan Mondays or specific dates to reduce congestion along pilgrim routes.
  • Authorities have imposed one-way traffic schemes and heavy vehicle bans on key corridors around Delhi-NCR, including Kalindi Kunj, Noida and the Agra Canal Road.
  • More than 5,000 police and paramilitary personnel, supported by CCTV cameras and drone patrols, have been deployed to safeguard pilgrims during the week-long yatra.
  • Temporary lighting has been installed along the 45-kilometre Kanwar Path and 17 emergency vehicles equipped with LED lights stand ready to respond to night-time emergencies.
