Uttar Pradesh CEO Demands Original SP Affidavits as Probe Flags Deceased Names

The election chief says only 3,919 scanned copies arrived by email, not the 18,000 originals the party claimed.

“It is also requested that you obtain a receipt as proof of submission from the office concerned for the list of affidavits provided by you, so that it can be clearly established how many affidavits were received by the office and on which date,” the CEO said (Pic for representation)

Overview

  • CEO Navdeep Rinwa directed the Samajwadi Party to submit original affidavits to the CEO, district election officers or electoral registration officers and to obtain receipts to verify counts and dates.
  • Officials say 3,919 scanned affidavits were received by email covering 74 assembly constituencies in 33 districts, contradicting the party’s assertion of 18,000 original submissions.
  • Initial investigations in five constituencies found affidavits dated November 2022 in the names of individuals who had died years earlier.
  • Some people shown scans denied filing any affidavits, and the CEO cautioned that providing false evidence is a criminal offence.
  • Separately, the CEO acknowledged minister Asim Arun’s complaint about alleged fraud in the Kannauj voter list and ordered a DEO probe, as the SP continued to accuse the Election Commission of bias.
