Uttar Pradesh Cancels Non-Tax E-Challans From 2017–2021, Launches 30-Day Portal Cleanup

The overhaul lifts portal holds on fitness renewals, permit issuance, vehicle transfers and HSRP issuance for eligible cases.

Overview

  • Cases pending in court up to December 31, 2021 will be abated and time-barred office cases will be closed, with statuses shown as “disposed–abated” or “closed–time bar” on the transport portal.
  • A total of 30.52 lakh challans were issued in 2017–2021, with 17.59 lakh already disposed and 12.93 lakh pending, which officials plan to resolve digitally within 30 days.
  • Weekly progress updates will appear on the portal dashboard as the National Informatics Centre deploys upgrades to support the cleanup and maintain transparency.
  • Administrative blocks tied to these challans—including fitness renewal, permits, vehicle transfer and HSRP—will be removed automatically once statuses update.
  • Tax-related challans and matters involving serious offences, accidents or IPC links are excluded, no refunds will be issued, existing court orders and paid penalties remain, and audit trails are retained.
