Overview
- The Uttar Pradesh Assembly unanimously passed the UP State Legislature Members and Ministers Amenities (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on August 14, concluding the monsoon session.
- Under the revision, ministers’ basic salary will climb from ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 per month, and MLAs/MLCs from ₹25,000 to ₹35,000.
- Legislators will receive additional monthly allowances totaling ₹67,750, while ministers will get ₹77,750 extra, covering constituency, secretarial and medical allowances.
- The amendment raises family pensions from ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month and adds incremental pensions for former council members, plus boosts annual travel benefits for ex-legislators from ₹100,000 to ₹150,000 with unused amounts convertible.
- Effective retroactively from April 1, the law ties future pay reviews to the cost inflation index every five years and is projected to add roughly ₹105.63 crore annually to the state exchequer.
