Uttar Pradesh Approves Two New Rhino Rehabilitation Zones in Dudhwa National Park

Rs 1.5 crore has been earmarked to launch two new centres in Dudhwa National Park focused on bolstering habitat protection, upgrading monitoring systems, curbing illegal trade, engaging local communities.

Overview

  • The Forest and Wildlife Department has allocated Rs 1.5 crore for the initial phase of RRA-3 and RRA-4 to enhance conservation infrastructure.
  • RRA-3 and RRA-4 will follow the models of RRA-1 and RRA-2 to facilitate semi-wild monitoring of rhinos and other wildlife.
  • Rs 1.27 crore of the budget is designated for maintaining natural habitats, water bodies and favourable vegetation.
  • Funds have been set aside for wildlife medicines, monitoring devices and civil works to strengthen surveillance against poaching.
  • Training programmes and outreach efforts will involve local communities in long-term conservation and biodiversity protection.
