Overview

  • Evergy’s Thermostat Program gives Kansas and Missouri customers free or discounted smart thermostats that can save up to $145 a year by automating temperature adjustments.
  • The U.S. Department of Energy recommends keeping indoor temperatures between 75°F and 78°F when home and raising them by 7°F during absences to balance comfort and efficiency.
  • Sealing gaps around windows, doors and unconditioned spaces can reduce cooling costs by around 15% by preventing conditioned air from escaping.
  • Running ceiling fans counterclockwise in summer and shifting air conditioning and appliance use to off-peak hours helps lower energy demand and monthly bills.
  • Installing ENERGY STAR appliances, LED lighting and renewable systems such as solar or geothermal energy can further cut consumption and provide additional savings or income from excess power.
