Utah Man Charged with Making Death Threats Against Palestinian Rights Organization
Amid Rising Anti-Muslim Bias, Kevin Brent Buchanan Faces Up to Five Years in Prison if Convicted
- Kevin Brent Buchanan, a Utah man, has been arrested and charged with making repeated death threats against a Palestinian rights organization.
- Buchanan allegedly left at least five voice messages for the organization, stating, in part, 'You're the enemy,' 'You're being catalogued,' 'You're gonna die' and 'You're dead people walking.'
- The FBI traced the phone number to a burner phone purchased at a Walmart in Tooele, Utah, with a credit card belonging to Buchanan.
- If convicted, Buchanan faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
- The case comes amid a reported increase in anti-Muslim and anti-Arab bias incidents in the US since the start of the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza on Oct. 7.
