Utah Highway Patrol Urges Caution After Good Samaritan Dies in Fall From I-84 Bridge

UHP is investigating under its 24-hour next-of-kin protocol before releasing her identity.

Overview

  • Just before 6 a.m. Friday in Weber Canyon, a man and woman stopped on I-84 to assist a crashed car.
  • They ran when another vehicle approached with locked brakes, and the woman jumped a barrier and fell between two bridge structures.
  • Troopers described pitch-black, icy conditions and said the pair were from out of town and unfamiliar with the area, urging would-be helpers to weigh personal safety.
  • UHP reported no other injuries and said the other drivers on scene did not contribute to the fatality.
  • Investigators are offering trauma resources to those involved and expect to release identification details after notifying next of kin.
