Utah Grandmother Injured in Florida Head-On Crash Begins Breathing on Her Own

A Florida Highway Patrol report says she was driving the wrong way when her car hit a Ford F-350.

Overview

  • Family updates say 61-year-old Tamra Kendrick had her breathing tube removed and can drink and eat as she remains in critical care after the Nov. 7 crash near Fort Walton Beach.
  • Authorities report the other driver sustained minor injuries, and none of the grandchildren Kendrick was visiting were in the Tesla she was driving.
  • Relatives say bystanders, including a U.S. Air Force airman who used a belt as a tourniquet, provided aid that helped save her life.
  • According to family accounts, surgeons amputated her left leg above the knee and treated extensive injuries including a ruptured spleen, hip socket fracture, right leg and left hand fractures, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, facial fractures, a brain bleed, and significant blood loss.
  • The family launched a GoFundMe to cover medical and travel costs and reports more than $64,000 raised as of Nov. 12, noting she may need to remain in Florida for months.
