Utah Father Kills Wife and Three Children in Murder-Suicide, Teen Son Survives

The 17-year-old survivor, critically injured, is being hailed as a hero by relatives as they mourn the loss of four family members in West Valley City.

Police believe 42-year-old Dae Reh shot his wife Bu Meh, their three young children, and then himself inside their West Valley City home over the weekend.
The lone survivor, 17-year-old Sha Reh, was found in the garage with a gunshot wound to the head and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Relatives described Bu Meh, a Karenni refugee from Myanmar, as a hardworking mother who fled violence in her home country to build a better life in the U.S.
The family had no prior police history, and investigators are working to determine a motive for the killings, which doubled the city’s homicide count for the year.
This tragedy marks the 38th mass killing in the U.S. this year, with over 165 people killed in such incidents nationwide in 2024.
