Overview

• On July 9 a Salt Lake County grand jury indicted Amber Lee Leary and Tyrel Scott Belone on first-degree felony counts of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated child abuse and child torture
• Prosecutors say Belone threatened to kill his daughter in a June 22 text and on June 28 hurled her onto a mattress, causing a skull fracture, brain bleed and extensive bruising
• Leary witnessed the assaults, did not intervene and initially refrained from calling 911 until she stepped outside to place the emergency call
• The couple’s three-year-old daughter remains in a medically induced coma at a Salt Lake County hospital and is in critical condition
• District Attorney Sim Gill urged parents under stress to seek help from family members or professional services to safeguard vulnerable children
