USWNT to Host World Cup Champion Spain in Two October Friendlies

The matches will act as final top-level tests ahead of the U.S. team’s Concacaf World Cup qualifying tournament in Texas this winter.

Overview

  • U.S. Soccer announced Monday that the USWNT will play Spain on Oct. 10 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., and on Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.
  • Coach Emma Hayes said the fixtures are “the perfect tests” and stressed that scheduling elite European opponents is difficult under the women’s international calendar.
  • The friendlies come before Concacaf qualifying, which runs Nov. 27–Dec. 5 in Texas and awards World Cup berths to the four quarterfinal winners.
  • Spain has already qualified for the 2027 World Cup and is the reigning champion, with stars such as Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas likely to feature.
  • Ticket presales for the Subaru Park match begin in mid-July and the two games mark only the fifth meeting between the nations, offering a rare chance to evaluate players and tactics ahead of qualifying.
