USWNT January Camp Features New Faces, Excludes European-Based Stars

Emma Hayes has excluded European-based players and key stars like Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, and Mallory Swanson from the January camp to prioritize rest and recovery during the off-season.
The camp, running from January 14-21 in Los Angeles, falls outside a FIFA international window and includes 26 players, with 13 having three or fewer caps and six receiving their first senior call-ups.
A concurrent 24-player Futures Camp will feature rising prospects under the age of 23, highlighting Hayes' long-term focus on strengthening the player pool for the 2027 World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
Veteran goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher's retirement has opened competition for her replacement, with four goalkeepers, including newcomer Angelina Anderson, called in for evaluation.
Hayes, who led the team to Olympic gold last year, is using this camp to experiment with lineups and deepen the roster, while preparing for the SheBelieves Cup in February.
