Overview

  • On August 14, USTA and Marvel announced an original Fantastic Four comic spotlighting Gibson to support the US Open’s '75 Years of Breaking Barriers' theme.
  • The comics will be distributed free to over 40,000 Fan Access Pass holders during US Open Fan Week (Aug. 18–23), with 6,000 copies given each weekday and the remainder on Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day.
  • Distribution is limited to one copy per fan on a first-come, first-serve basis when fans scan their Fan Access Pass at designated giveaway booths at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
  • The storyline follows the Fantastic Four as they learn about Gibson’s pioneering 1950 barrier-breaking triumph, drawing on her legacy to face an 'impossible' challenge at the US Open grounds.
  • USTA’s Nicole Kankam and Marvel’s Holly Frank said the comic offers a creative way to honor Gibson’s legacy and engage diverse audiences by merging tennis history with mainstream entertainment.
