USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group Returns to Virginia from Mediterranean

The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is returning to port in Norfolk, Virginia, after being deployed to the Mediterranean in October amid renewed fighting between Hamas and the Israeli military.
The naval group was diverted to the Mediterranean following the October 7 Hamas-led attacks that killed approximately 1,200 Israelis.
Ships from the strike group intercepted missiles launched by Houthi militants in Yemen and sank three Houthi boats.
The Maersk shipping line announced a pause in shipping through the Red Sea after one of its vessels was targeted by Houthi rebels.
The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, also deployed to the Middle East in October, remains in place.
