USPTO Rejects Four ‘Bill’s Version’ Trademarks Tied to Patriots Phrases

A three-month appeal window now follows a finding that the phrases conflict with Patriots-owned marks.

Overview

  • The patent office refused applications for “Do Your Job (Bill’s Version),” “Ignore the Noise (Bill’s Version),” “The Belestrator (Bill’s Version)” and “No Days Off (Bill’s Version)” on likelihood-of-confusion grounds.
  • Trademark records show the New England Patriots own prior registrations for the underlying phrases from 2009, 2013 and 2017.
  • TCE Rights Management, with Jordon Hudson listed as manager, filed the marks in April for use on clothing, streaming content, books and other media.
  • The USPTO gave TCE three months to appeal, and a trademark attorney said potential options include challenging the team’s current use or any contractual ownership terms.
  • Other TCE filings such as “Chapel Bill (Bill’s Version),” “The Belichick Way” and “The All-Belichick Team” showed no conflicts, and a separate “Gold Digger” application remains pending.
