Overview

  • USPS will modify First-Class Mail standards in 2025, with changes rolling out in phases beginning April 1 and July 1.
  • The adjustments will affect delivery times for 25% of First-Class Mail: 14% will be faster, while 11% will see slight delays, though all deliveries remain within the 1-5 day standard.
  • A new five-digit regional ZIP code add-on will replace the current three-digit system to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • The modifications are part of USPS's 'Delivering for America' 10-year plan, which aims to modernize operations and address financial losses exceeding $100 billion since 2007.
  • The changes are projected to save $36 billion over the next decade through cost reductions in transportation, processing, and real estate.
