USPS Sets Temporary Holiday Surcharges for Parcels Starting Oct. 5

The Postal Service says tiered increases will offset higher handling costs during the busiest mailing period.

Overview

  • The temporary price increases take effect Oct. 5, 2025 and end Jan. 18, 2026.
  • Adjustments apply to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select across retail and commercial tiers.
  • Increases vary by zone and weight, with examples including up to $16 more for 26–70 lb Priority Mail Express shipments to Zones 5–9 and up to $7 more for heavy Priority Mail in those zones.
  • The USPS Board of Governors approved the changes on Aug. 7, and the filing is subject to Postal Regulatory Commission review.
  • USPS published recommended ship-by dates for Christmas delivery, including Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express.
