USPS Sets Jan. 15 Release for Muhammad Ali Forever Stamp

A limited run designed by USPS art director Antonio Alcalá uses a 1974 AP photo to honor Ali’s athletic, humanitarian legacy.

Overview

  • The first-day-of-issue ceremony will take place in Louisville at the University of Louisville L & N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
  • The stamps will be sold in sheets of 20 for $15.60, with preorders at store.usps.com and nationwide post office sales beginning Jan. 15.
  • USPS officials say 22 million stamps have been printed and no reprints are planned once they sell out.
  • The design features a 1974 black-and-white Associated Press image of Ali in a boxing pose, and each sheet also displays a 1976 portrait of him in a suit.
  • Lonnie Ali said she is thrilled by the tribute, calling the stamp an enduring piece of her husband’s legacy.
