USPS Sets Jan. 15 Release for Muhammad Ali Forever Stamp

A Louisville debut caps a yearslong selection process focused on honoring Ali’s athletic stature alongside his humanitarian legacy.

A sheet of Muhammad Ali Forever Stamps, sold by the U.S. Postal Service beginning Jan. 15, 2026. The sheet features a 1976 image of the boxing champion in a pinstripe suit, while the stamps themselves feature a 1974 image of the boxer with his gloves on.

Overview

  • USPS will issue the first Muhammad Ali Forever Stamp on Jan. 15 with a public first-day ceremony in Louisville at the University of Louisville’s L & N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
  • Sheets of 20 cost $15.60, available for preorder at store.usps.com and at post offices nationwide, with shipping beginning Jan. 15.
  • The design features a 1974 black-and-white Associated Press photo of Ali in a boxing pose, selected by USPS art director Antonio Alcalá after reviewing hundreds of images.
  • Each sheet also includes a portrait of Ali in a suit to recognize his activism and humanitarian work beyond the ring.
  • USPS printed 22 million stamps and says the issue will not be reprinted once it sells out, while Lonnie Ali welcomed the tribute as a way to keep his message in public view.
