USPS Rolls Out Tech-Forward Post Office Lobbies as Phase One Nears October Finish

The overhaul centers on self-service tools USPS says reduce waits and expand 24/7 access.

Overview

  • Enhanced self-service kiosks are now in 2,600 locations, enabling weighing, label printing, supply purchases and mailing, with USPS reporting up to 40% shorter lobby waits at upgraded sites.
  • Around-the-clock smart lockers have been installed at 700 sites, allowing customers to receive packages to secure units and pick them up at any time.
  • A new Rapid Drop mobile app will store prepaid labels, locate nearby post offices, track shipments, send alerts and start self-service acceptance before customers arrive.
  • Renovated lobbies add digital information displays, streamlined layouts and expanded in‑lobby government services such as passports, fingerprinting and identity proofing.
  • USPS says phase one concludes by the end of October 2025, with more locations slated for upgrades in fiscal 2026, and the agency has not published a public master list of remodeled sites.
