USPS Holiday Parcel Surcharges Take Effect Today Through Jan. 18

USPS says the time-limited surcharges offset peak-season handling costs under its Delivering for America plan.

Overview

  • The temporary price adjustments run from Oct. 5, 2025 through Jan. 18, 2026 for select package services.
  • Increases apply to Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select, while stamps and most other mail products are unchanged.
  • Surcharges vary by zone and weight, with examples including up to $7 more for Priority Mail Zones 5–9 at 26–70 lbs and up to $16 more for Priority Mail Express Zones 5–9 at 26–70 lbs.
  • The changes were approved by the USPS Board of Governors on Aug. 7 and were filed for Postal Regulatory Commission review.
  • USPS published recommended holiday mailing dates, including Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage and First‑Class Mail, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express, with separate guidance for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories.
