Overview

  • The USOPC quietly amended its Athlete Safety Policy on July 21 to reference Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic & Amateur Sports Act.
  • The revised policy omits the terms “transgender” and any detailed enforcement procedures, citing only “Executive Order 14201.”
  • The USOPC says it will collaborate with the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and national governing bodies to ensure fair and safe competition for women.
  • All national governing bodies have been instructed to update their policies to align with the USOPC’s revised guidance.
  • It remains unclear which athletes, if any, will be barred from competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics under the new rules.
