  • On July 4 just after 9:20 p.m., a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officer attempted to detain a Can-Am ATV near Grand Boulevard and Los Esteros Road by the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility
  • The ATV driver plowed into the officer and dragged him before the officer discharged at least one round toward the escaping vehicle
  • The officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and is now in stable condition
  • The ATV driver remains unidentified and at large, and investigators have not determined whether the officer’s gunfire hit the suspect or vehicle
  • San Jose Police Department has taken over the case and is collecting evidence to reconstruct the collision, dragging and use-of-force sequence
