Overview

  • The USDA will relocate about 2,600 of its 4,600 National Capital Region employees to hubs in Raleigh, North Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • The South Building, Braddock Place and the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center are slated for return to GSA as the department sheds costly, underused properties.
  • Over the next month, senior leaders will notify D.C.-area employees of relocation decisions under a phased implementation schedule.
  • The department has already recorded 15,364 voluntary deferred resignations after an 8% headcount increase and 14.5% salary rise over four years without corresponding service gains.
  • USDA is consolidating redundant support functions into centralized offices as the AFGE union and congressional agriculture committees press for oversight hearings over potential service gaps.
